About Us

Background

Formation of the consortium, in January 2000, marked the first time in the history of the schools that the presidents met to discuss joint initiatives. The consortium, consisting of the presidents of Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach Community College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Stetson University, and University of Central Florida, is an incorporated, not-for-profit organization.

The Volusia/Flagler community is fortunate to have one of the largest and most diverse concentrations of institutions of higher learning in the state. The presence of colleges and universities enriches the local community for residents and adds to the overall desirability of the area for business development and tourism. A strong partnership between the counties and the consortium will be mutually beneficial as we collaborate to advance county initiatives.

MISSION

Created by private and public higher education institutions offering accredited degree programs.......

The Consortium provides a forum for members to share common ideas and concerns and serves as a vehicle through which the members share resources and cooperate for the benefit of students, faculty, and the community.

The Consortium promotes the role of higher education in the region's economic and cultural life, and provides leadership on matters related to higher education in the community and in the various locations in which its members reside.

The Consortium promotes cooperation and communication between member institutions and local, state, and national governments.

PRIORITIES

    • Develop and enhance cooperative opportunities for students.
    • Represent the interests and concerns of the member institutions with local and regional governmental entities.
    • Provide a forum for campus representatives to develop and refine intercampus initiatives.
    • Promote Volusia/Flagler County area as a center for higher education.
